About Chiropractic

What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a hands-on, drug-free alternative healthcare choice that has been around for over 100 years. Doctors of Chiropractic are nervous system (spinal cord and nerves) specialists, spending 4 years in undergraduate school and 4 additional years in graduate school learning the intricacies of the nervous system and how it correlates to every living cell in the body. The brain uses the nervous system to control and coordinate the function of every cell in your body. The health of your nervous system is vitally important to the health of your entire body.
The spine, made up of 24 bones called vertebra, protects the spinal cord and nerves. A subluxation happens when one or more of these vertabrae become misaligned and “stuck” in an abnormal position. As shown in the photo above, the nerves around the subluxation quickly become irritated, in turn disrupting the information traveling along this pathway. Subluxations occur from a variety of sources including: poor posture, injuries, falls, repetitive actions at work, poor sleeping habits etc. Since the nerves are the form of communication between the brain and every living cell in your body, interference of the nerve impulse can decrease the ability for your brain to communicate with these cells, which make up your organs, glands, tissues, muscle, etc.
Patients are evaluated in our office with an Initial Examination and Surface EMG to determine the health and efficiency of their nervous system. Pain, although it is not the best indicator of your level of health, often shows as a symptom when dysfunction or dis-ease are present. Our Initial Examination and Surface EMG scans allow us to further determine where subluxations are located and determine if you are a good candidate for chiropractic care.
Once the condition of the spine and other joints are thoroughly evaluated, a unique and optimal care plan is designed for each patient to correct the subluxation patterns in the spine of that individual. One of the Doctors will perform chiropractic adjustments to realign the spinal malpositions and release nerve interference. Removing the interference will allow the nervous system to properly function and the brain will again be able to properly communicate with the rest of the body.
OPTIMAL SPINE EQUALS OPTIMAL HEALTH
When your nervous system is healthy, you will not experience the painful symptoms that are caused by nerve interference. Some of the symptoms you may be experiencing include: headaches, back/neck pain, numbness, tingling, sciatica, weakness, indigestion, and many more.
PAIN IS NOT YOUR ONLY WARNING SIGN
When a nerve is irritated for an extended period of time, muscles and other soft tissue (blood vessels and nerves) become involved. As this occurs, the irritation causes changes in these tissues. Eventually a message is sent back to the brain, and the message returns in the form of pain in that area. Pain, balance issues, sleep disturbances, weakness, cramping, and digestive problems are all indicators of spinal health problems.
THEY WARN YOU WHEN YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM IS NOT FUNCTIONING NORMALLY
The communication and feeling of pain is your body’s way of telling you that something is not right. Muscle tightening and pain are warning signs that subluxations are present and that damage to nerve and other tissues is occurring.
THE SUBLUXATION (MISALIGNED VERTEBRAE) IS THE PROBLEM
Pain is only the symptom, and the underlying cause is the irritation of the nerve caused by the subluxation.
THE CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENT IS THE UNIQUE AND EFFECTIVE SOLUTION
Removing the cause of irritation from the nerves and allowing repair to the tissues decreases the amount of pain and other symptoms experienced, such as: digestive problems, numbness, tingling, weakness, imbalance, headache, and many others.
What Chiropractic Treats
Chiropractic treats the WHOLE PERSON. Your nervous system controls every living cell in your body, from your glands to your muscles. Chiropractic restores proper function of your nervous system so that the communication between the brain and the body is optimal. Once the irritation is removed, your body has the ability to properly restore function to all tissues involved.
